Today’s post is a mix of things. Let’s start with the boring one, but very important, and then the other 2, which are more fun.
1 – GDPR
a new Data Protection policy is coming to the EU. It’s mandatory that everyone and every company in possession of personal data from people in the EU takes care of dealing with their data properly, and it is also mandatory to clearly inform those people about the purpose of keeping and using that data. People have their right to be forgotten if they choose to do so, and any data stored from them in the systems should be deleted as applicable. Therefore, as a blogger, youtuber and Etsy shop owner I want to let you know that your data (email address / Name / real address (if you ever bought from me in Etsy)) is safely stored in the systems of WordPress, Youtube and Etsy, they have their own privacy agreements to which you agreed on, you can always unsubscribe at their platforms if you wish to do so. I have access to that data as a blogger, Youtuber and Etsy owner, I have never shared this information with anybody else or any other third parties and I will not do it, unless I’m forced to do so by law and by a request from the authorities. I will only use your data to contact you via email, using WordPress emails like this one, because you’ve subscribed to my blog, you’ve shown interest on me or my work and you want to be updated. 2 – Creativation 2018
Back in January I made a dream come true: I went to CHA (Creativation) for the first time! Last year I really enjoyed seeing the show through everybody’s eyes, that was the only thing I could do! This year, I wanted to see it in person, and I wanted to share my own experience with you, guys. So I brought my cameras with me and other gadgets (many of them, trust me) and although you may have seen my videos already in YouTube, now I’m ready to write the story as I’ve lived it and seen it. Here it is! Just keep reading after point 3.
3 – Stitches 2018
In February I went to Stitches, I gave a class, I enjoyed it a lot and apart from that I went to visit other stands. As part of that visit, I met Marion Emberson from WOW and she did a great demo of 2 techniques. I’ve prepared a video and here you can see it too.

El post de hoy es una mezcla de cosas. Empecemos por la más aburrida, pero más importante y dejamos lo bueno para el final.
1 – LOPD
Este mes de mayo entra en vigor una nueva política de protección de datos para los ciudadanos de la UE. Es de obligado cumplimiento que todas las personas y compañías que gestionan y almacenan datos personales de gente de la UE se responsabilicen de hacer un uso correcto y adecuado de estos datos, que informen a las personas del objetivo de almacenar esos datos y del presente y futuro uso que se va a hacer de ellos. La gente de la UE tiene el derecho a ser olvidados en los diferentes sistemas si así lo desean. Por lo tanto, como blogger, Youtuber y vendedora en mi tienda Etsy, os quiero informar de que vuestros datos (dirección de correo electrónico, nombre, dirección postal (si es que habéis comprado en mi tienda etsy)) se encuentran protegidos en esas plataformas bajo los acuerdos de privacidad y protección de datos que aceptasteis en su momento y yo tengo acceso a algunos de esos datos como gestora de mi blog, mi canal de YouTube y mi tienda Etsy. 2 – Creativation 2018
Este enero tuve la oportunidad de vivir un sueño hecho realidad: Fui al CHA (Creativation) por primera vez! El año pasado disfruté muchísimo viendo el show a través de los ojos de todo el mundo, es lo único que podía hacer! Este año quería verlo en persona y compartir mi experiencia con vosotros. Así que me traje todas mis cámaras y bártulos (muchos, demasiados…) y ya estoy lista para explicaros la historia tal y como la vi y viví. Seguid leyendo después del punto 3. Espero que lo disfrutéis!
3 – Stitches 2018
Por último, os traigo un nuevo vídeo de otra feria. En febrero fui a Stitches, en Birmingham y allí, además de dar un taller que disfruté un montón, pude pasear por todos las paradas y entre ellas pasé por WOW y me encontré con Marion Emberson quien hizo un par de demos de dos técnicas usando los polvos de embossing WOW. Muy chulas!

Day 1 – Travelling to Phoenix
I live in London and one of the cheapest ways to reach Phoenix is via LA, so on Thursday morning I left my home, took the train to King’s cross and headed to Gatwick airport.
In Gatwick I checked in with Norwegian airline at the self service kiosk (bad decision, I was allocated a sit in the middle zone, right in the middle, I ended up with neck ache due to me not moving in several long hours (it’s a bit embarrassing looking 90 degrees to your left and right to move your neck, since it seems you’re directly looking into the person next to you, who for me they were both strangers on each side, I was travelling alone, so well, I just looked straight and straight stiff neck I got…)). I bought lunch, fruit, victorian cake and a tea at Pret a Manger before boarding the plane. Had the tea and the cake while waiting at the airport.
Time to board the plane, a flight full of movies: Ice Age 3 (or 4, who knows, it’s called drifting continents or something like that), Despicable me 3, Wonderwoman and Happy Feet and in between I had a look at a documentary on tree houses, which I put thrice so I could sleep a little bit (I can’t take a nap if something new I’ve never seen it’s playing, so that was my trick, watch it first and then the second and third time I can just let go and close my eyes).
When I wake up after my nap I have a moment of “What am I doing here? Coming alone to a show, at the other side of the world. Is this my place at all?” my belly starts having butterflies, not the good ones, but the anxiety ones. Normally if I have those is because I think I’ve made a bad decision and those only end either when I change plans or when I find a better reason to carry on. Here I have no turning back. The feeling ends when I think that I will not be alone, I have Leandra and Mark (mum and dad, as Seth Apter says) who know everything about it and who will take care of me, I feel safe at their side. They are great! Love them! Bad butterflies gone, keep the good ones coming!
We land at LA and I’m slightly stressed out, my next flight is in 2,5h and I had to go through immigration, where queues tend to be hyper long. I had a plan B, I bought another flight for £43 couple of hours after that one, just in case. That was the best peace of mind money spent, however, I still wanted to catch the first flight. Some people let me through and I reach my next flight on time. Note 1 for next time: apparently if you say in your flight that you have a connection flight the flight attendants will give you a magic orange card that let’s you skip the queues, no questions asked. Note 2 for next time: It is safer to have a gap of 3h in between flights, according to the man who didn’t want to let me through…
This flight is very short and I land at Phoenix, pitch black.
I have issues downloading the Uber app so I give up and I take a cab, they all accept cards and I’m too tired to try and fix it. I arrive at my hotel Super 8 Downtown Phoenix, which I was expecting to be a 100% crap and it turned out to be just 50% crap. It was, supposed to be non-smoking. I wonder if that decision was made just yesterday because once you open the room door it smells like cigarette all the time, well, until you spend 30 minutes, then your nose gets used to it and you don’t feel it anymore. When my mum reads this in the Spanish part of the post she will freak out, since she knows how much I hate that horrible smell. But well, the price was good, it included breakfast and it is walkable distance (20 minutes) from the convention centre where Creativation would be happening shortly. I booked everything too late in the day, so that was my only affordable option. Off to bed, taking ibuprofen for my neck and hoping that the big and fluffy pillows don’t make it worse.
Day 2 – Building up the PaperArtsy booth and meeting famous people
The next morning I wake up with stiff neck, lots of pain but that will not stop me from going to CHA! So ibuprofen goes in and I have a quick breakfast (2 toasts with Philadelphia and an Earl Grey with milk will be my friends for the next 3 days. Today, in addition, I also have yogurt and I take a mini-muffin with me, just in case). I walk to the city centre to meet Mark and Leandra. We pick up the boxes at the UPS store and head to Creativation. I can’t believe it! It’s happening! I pick my pass and we enter the paradise…
We start building the booth, applying the posters, etc. Here it comes mine!
It takes us much longer that expected (expected 2h, but took us the entire day, they almost kick us, announcing that we needed to leave the space through the speakers. Since carrying a full tray of Fresco Paints for display would take too much weight and space, Mark came up with the idea of painting bottle shaped cardboard pieces using all the fresco colours (88 or more) that could then be stick to the walls as a sample chart. Attaching each little bottle on the right spots was taking me ages, it was like playing Lynx game for the first time, trying to find the right image in the board. Luckily Mark came to rescue and between the 2 of us, we get that sorted. The result was worth it!
Once the basics of the booth are up, we move on to prepare the demo area, we paint each new bottle cap with its respective paint, so when you are demoing you can see the colours at a glance and you know what you are picking, no need to read the labels. It’s a pleasant task and we chat while doing it.
Then at some point Leandra decides to try the heatgun (UK plug) and it doesn’t work OK, it’s too weak due to the voltage. If you huff you would be more successful on drying a paper than if you used that heatgun… So she suggests we go to Ranger to see if they have one. I hear Ranger and my eyes suddenly spark with joy, so I’m in for the expedition and I make sure I take my mobile with me (Pixel 2, great camera!)… I have to keep eyes wide open in case I find someone… And who do we find? Dyan Reaveley! Creator of Dylusions, owner of Art From the Heart (shop where we did the Workshop with Tim Holtz). I go ahead and ask (why not?) if I can take a picture with her. And that’s how my wall of fame picture collection starts!
I leave them talking and head off to see what other things are being created at other booths and to see if I find someone else I can take a pictures with. I suddenly step into Prima booth and something catches my eye: I see Frank Garcia sitting on the make and take table! My inner me suddenly hits me in the head and tells me: remember, you have a mission! Get his autograph for your friend (won’t say names, Aida) and take a picture. So I run back to PaperArtsy booth (praying for Frank to stay where he was for a little bit longer) and take my blank cards for autographs and a pen, and I go back there. I awake him from his boredom (well, perhaps he was having fun with his mobile, but hey, tomorrow he will be more busy!) and ask for the autograph and picture. We take several pictures, thanks to some of his colleagues. We exchange few words and I leave.
Happy to have accomplished my mission, I find out that there is a nice booth, behind Prima’s and it happens to be the sizzix one where Tim Holtz had few bits and pieces, and who do I find there? Mario Rossi!! I’m not shy anymore, I think what the heck, let’s ask for a picture too, and he is happy for that, so there you go, another one!
I leave Mario and I start admiring the artwork at that booth. It’s unbelievably beautiful. And when I’m half way through, who does appear?? Tim Holtz!!! He kindly accepted to take a picture with me, although I felt embarrassed to ask for it because I believe he was supposed to go somewhere, but he still accepts and doesn’t mind. I thought that I would better get him on camera today that is not busy rather than tomorrow, I may not have a second chance.
They leave the booth, they let me carry on taking pictures and once I finish I remember: wasn’t Gina K on stand 3001? Yes, I memorised it. Why? Because she had a huge influence on me. Because of her, I got into this world at a deeper level. I was on the surface, I just knew plain stamping with different inks and heat embossing in gold. End of. It was when I found her youtube channel with a lot of videos on a lot of techniques, Kissing, masking, huffing, resist, second generation of stamping, ageing, heat embossing, cold embossing with cuttlebug and embossing folders, die cutting, Joseph’s coat, you name it… I think that the weekend I found her I view perhaps 40 videos of hers in a row, I couldn’t stop, and I was craving to try all these new techniques, so at the end, she brought me the need for getting clear embossing powders (to do resist techniques) and the cuttlebug (to do cold embossing and die cutting). So yes, I was so excited to have the chance to meet her that I didn’t doubt to try my chance and… I found her!!!!! My inner me was jumping up and down, I couldn’t believe it! She was again heading somewhere else, but she was with a happy face, always smiling (I love her) and I briefly said that thanks to her I bought my first cuttlebug, learned many techniques and eventually I ended up here, so I thanked her very much and I asked if I could take a picture with her, she of course wanted and I was over the moon! Her colleague took the picture. Here you go, one of the most incredible moments in my life. For those non-crafters, just imagine that you find in front of you the singer that inspired you to start playing the guitar and that you eventually made a more-than-a-hobby life out of it and it allowed you to perhaps play live at a bar or a concert or creating your own album. That’s how I felt.
After that I thought to myself: I could leave back home now and it would have been totally worth it. I didn’t need more. So it could only get better…
I went back to PaperArtsy booth and I believe I made it before Leandra came back from Ranger’s booth. Once she came, the 3 of us carried on with the booth, we attached real samples to the walls. Seth Apter came and Mark, Seth and I took a picture.
Seth left. We had to leave Creativation and we went for dinner the three of us. Lovely dinner with the best of company. After dinner I went walking to my hotel, wrote on my travel journal and slept for the night.
Day 3 – Creativation
Today is the day! It all will start at 10am for regular visitors, but I have the exhibitor badge, so I can get in earlier. I go inside through the exhibitors door and I start going through the aisles with my cameras (yes, 2 at the same time) because I’m trying to report live on Instagram and also trying to capture the same with the go pro. According to Instagram, Vicky Papaioannou will be there today (looking forward to meet her!) but Kristina Werner couldn’t make it due to back pain (it’s a pity, It would have been lovely to meet her, she has also been a great influencer to me, I love all the cards she makes, never running out of ideas and all beautiful. It’s not my style, but I found them amazing and inspiring).
My objective today is try to get few demos recorded, so you guys can experience the show with me a little bit. I manage to get some minutes of Jane Davenport. Lovely and lighthearted happy lady, adoring her mermaids and her new ink pads with scale shape. You can only feel happy if she is around!
My next stop is Gina K. My happiness is rocketed to the moon when I arrive and she recognises me from yesterday! 🙂 She gives away a new stamping technique I had never seen before (that’s my Gina!) and she uses her new termoweb designs with foil to get shine and sparkle.
I was hoping to get a sample of what she just made, but I didn’t dare to ask for it (I don’t know it then, but the next day I’ll find a sample of it in the floor, and you guessed right, I will take it and I save it in my travel journal (my precioussss)).
After Gina I go to Ranger and I suddenly see a bunch of people, cameras, iPads in tripods and microphones surrounding a table. OK, guys, guess who that was. Of course, Mr Tim Holtz! Bang! And do you know who was watching too? Vicky Papaioannou! Double bang! I get closer to the table, close to Vicky, I start an Instagram live but can’t quite capture the table. When she realises that I’m trying to film, she gives me a smile and space to get closer (isn’t she kind?? and we haven’t talked yet!) I record Tim explaining about his new spray resist. It looks OK, I may want to try it one day.
Once the first part is over, it seems Vicky wants to go somewhere else, so then I turn and introduce myself, just in case our paths don’t cross anymore and I get a first picture with her.
Once she leaves, I go back to Tim and carry on recording.
After Tim, I go back to PaperArtsy booth and do a bit of demo on Infusions. The day goes by, I have few more quick expeditions to booths and few more videos recorded (it’s seems I’m hunting for Tim, he is all over the place, changing booths all the time (he has 7, S-E-V-E-N)). I have a chance to meet Heidi Swapp.
I record Seth live.
I record myself live, nobody is watching, but I don’t care, I carry on, and then eventually Jofy comes up in that Instagram live, so we take a chance to say hi on the booth.
It’s then around 2pm and I’m already exhausted! I go to have lunch to a relaxing area nearby, full of sits and plugs for charging your electrical devices. Mark and Leandra kindly provided a chicken bagel for me, it’s delicious, I start biting it and I realise I don’t have a napkin (that’s OK) but then I realise Vicky is going in the direction to PaperArtsy booth (OK, let’s go for the napkin, maybe I can meet her if she actually pops in). She does pop in when I’m getting my napkin, so then I actually introduce myself as PaperArtsy designer, she remembers me, we take a picture by my stamps and I leave her talking to Leandra. I go to finish my bagel. I’m even more exhausted.
The day goes by, I’m enjoying myself very much, getting little expeditions here and there. I record a demo on Ice Resin.
Seth has given me the new embossing powders that he and Emerald Creek have come up with and that I purchased from him some weeks ago. They are really different from regular embossing powders, I’m craving to start playing with them. This is a video I made about them in February:
I continue filming more demos. I find my friend Paula (we just know each other from a couple of times, Stitches and Ally Pally, but she is very nice) she is demoing at Tonic booth with some Nuvo Brushes which are super high density of dye, they even seem alcohol inks, she does beautiful samples to use as a background or to die cut.
Back to PaperArtsy booth, more demoing, chatting, filming. Leandra does a couple of demos, one about Frescos:
And one about Infusions, a paste effect that is wonderful!
And the day at creativation is suddenly over. We finish it with a lovely dinner with Mark, Leandra, Seth, Kim Evans and other people from the Industry, all very kind. Lovely evening, fantastic company and great food. Back to my hotel, and only one day left.
Day 4 – Last day for me
OK, so today is my last day. The show starts at 9am today (why? because, why not? They decided it that way… first day starts at 10am, second day at 9am) so I get my suitcase packed, take a shower, go for my last breakfast at Super 8 and leave with everything to Creativation. Today it’s a beautiful day, no clouds at all, perfect temperature. So I record my way to creativation, not sure if I’ll do anything with all that footage, but anyway, I’m enjoying that and I really want to capture and savour every moment. The airport is close by, my first flight is at 3pm, so instead of leaving at 12 sharp I decide I can stay a bit longer.
I decide to go through all the booths one by one and record all the beautiful samples using my camera (not the goPro, but the other one) just to have a flat image, not a fish eyed one, although at some point I record with both of them, I don’t want to repeat my bad experience in Seychelles, when I just realised how bad images were once at home, so I’m recording backups of backups (at some point I think I’m going to be kicked out of some booths where I’ve been thrice or four times already… but nobody complains or seems to notice, phew!)
If I had to rank the booths by their decoration, I need to say that in the top 3 are Tim Holtz (Ideaology, Stamper’s Anonymous and Sizzix) Graphic 45 and Prima. I can’t judge the PaperArtsy one, for the means they had, it’s a great booth, the samples are absolutely gorgeous and I’m not talking about mine, but the rest of the design team and wingmen have done such a great job! But with the thing that I can’t share stamps before the release date, I didn’t take pictures of all of them. So here is my top 10 booths:

I get to do an Instagram live, recorded by Leandra (and also my GoPro and my Instagram live) and I get to talk to few more people.
I get to film Tim one last time and I get to tell him (finally) that I design stamps for PaperArtsy (last tick in the box done) he starts chatting a bit more with me and I finally say bye to him.
Final visit to PaperArtsy booth, hugs and safe flight wishes received from my two crafty adopting parents and I leave Creativation for this year.
First flight goes well, I land in LA (and I get to see (from very far away) the Hollywood sign from my window, how cool is that?).
I check in for the next flight, this time at the desks, not the kiosk and I ask if it is possible to get a window, and I get it for free (yes! Let’s see if my neck suffers less this time) I buy my food and start typing this post. I get into the plane, I watch one movie, I have some lunch and then I carry on with the post. I decide to take a nap (that was Leandra’s recommendation to avoid Jet lag) and I seem to manage since now we are just 2 hours away from London.
I land in London, everything goes smoothly and I arrive home. Time to relax, unwind and process all the information and inspiration received these days.
It’s been an awesome trip, I don’t regret it at all and I don’t think it was too short for what I wanted to achieve.

CREATIVATION 2018
Día 1 – Viaje a Fénix
Vivo en Londres y una de las formas más baratas de llegar a Fénix es vía Los Ángeles, así que el jueves por la mañana salí de casa, cogí el tren a King’s cross y me fui para Gatwick.
En Gatwick hice check in en las máquinas (mala decisión, así el asiento se te asigna automáticamente y me dieron uno justo en el medio (sección central de 3 asientos, pues en el medio de los tres) y acabé con un dolor de cuello brutal por no moverlo. Es que empezar a girar 90 grados el cuello a derecha y a izquierda para encontrarte con un desconocido a cada lado y parecer que le estás mirando de lleno me parecía un poco intimidante, así que en lugar de eso, mirada tiesa al frente durante todo el vuelo y de rebote el cuello se me quedó también bien tieso…). Compré comida para el vuelo, mango, un victorian cake (mini bizcocho que en medio tiene nata y fresa) y un Earl Grey con leche en Pret a Manger antes de subir al avión, porque la comida del vuelo se pagaba a parte y por ese precio (unos £20), prefería decidir mi menú que además me salía más barato. Me tomé el te y el pastelito mientras esperaba a que anunciasen la puerta de embarque.
Llega la hora de subir al avión. Un viaje de películas: Ice age 3 (o 4, quien sabe, la de que se separan los continentes, que no había visto aún), Despicable me 3, Wonderwoman y Happy Feet y por en medio me puse un documental de cabañas de árbol 3 veces seguidas para ver si me podía echar una sietecita (me cuesta horrores dormir si estoy viendo algo nuevo, así que ese fue mi truco, me lo pongo una vez, lo veo y a la siguiente ya me puedo dejar llevar y cerrar los ojos).
Después de mi siesta, me despierto y de repente tengo un momento de “Qué hago yo aquí? Vengo sola a una feria al otro lado del mundo. Es este mi lugar?” en mi barriga aparecen mariposas, pero no son de las buenas sino de las que aparecen por ansiedad. Normalmente si aparecen es porque en ese momento me acabo de dar cuenta que he tomado una mala decisión, y mi única forma de pararlas es dejando de hacer lo que las causa o encontrando una forma de seguir adelante. Aquí no hay marcha atrás, no puedo decirle al piloto que de la vuelta. La sensación se me va cuando me doy cuenta de que no voy a estar sola, que tengo a Leandra y Mark (mamá y papá, como dice Seth Apter) quienes controlan perfectamente y en quienes puedo confiar y sentirme segura a su lado. Les aprecio mogollón, son tan majos! Mariposas malas fuera, ya llegan las buenas!
Aterrizamos en Los Angeles y estoy un poco estresada, mi siguiente vuelo es en 2 horas y media y tengo que pasar inmigración, donde las colas suelen ser súper largas. Tengo un plan B, me compré otro vuelo más por £43 por si acaso. La idea de perder el primero y no saber si me van a poder meter en otro me hubiese causado tal estrés, que sólo por tener la tranquilidad mental, me vale la pena pagarlo. Aun así, quería intentar pillar el primer vuelo. Algunas personas me dejan pasar en la cola y consigo llegar a tiempo. Nota 1 para la próxima vez: por lo visto si dices en el avión (Londres a LA) que al aterrizar tienes un vuelo de conexión, te dan una tarjeta mágica naranja que hace que te lleven por una vía más rápida y te saltas colas. Nota 2 para la próxima vez: Es mejor dejarse un margen de 3h entre vuelos, según el hombre del chaleco que controlaba parte de la cola y que no me quería dejar pasar (menos mal que unos metros más allá había otro hombre con chaleco que me dijo, pasa, pasa)…
Este vuelo es muy corto y por fin aterrizo en Fénix.
La aplicación de Uber para pedir coche al hotel me da problemas y acabo por subirme a un taxi normal, son más caros pero aceptan tarjetas y estoy demasiado cansada para esperar. Llego a mi hotel Super 8 Downtown Phoenix, para el cual mis expectativas estaban por los suelos, me esperaba un hotel 100% cutre y desastroso y al final sólo lo era al 50%. Se supone que es un hotel donde está prohibido fumar y me pregunto si tomaron esa decisión ayer mismo, porque al abrir la puerta se desprende un olor a tabaco que tira para atrás, la sensación te dura una media hora y a partir de entonces el olfato se acostumbra. Ahora mi mami debe de estar flipando al leer esto, porque sabe lo que odio ese apestoso olor a tabaco. Pero bueno, el precio estaba bien, incluye desayuno y está a 20 minutos a pie del recinto donde se hace Creativation. Lo reservé todo en el último momento, así que es lo que hay. Me meto a la cama, me enchufo un ibufrofeno para el dolor de espalda y rezo para que las mullidas almohadas no me empeoren la situación de mi cuello.
Día 2 – Montando el stand de PaperArtsy y encuentros con famosos
La siguiente mañana me despierto aún con el cuello tieso, mucho dolor, pero eso no me va a parar de ir al CHA! Así que ibuprofeno para adentro, tomo desayuno (2 tostadas con Philadelphia y un té Earl Grey con leche van a ser mis amigos estos 3 días, hoy además me tomo un yogur y me llevo una mini magdalena de chocolate por si acaso). Camino hasta el centro para encontrarme con Mark y Leandra, recogemos las cajas de PaperArtsy para montar el stand en la tienda de UPS y vamos para Creativation. No me lo puedo creer! Está pasando! Recojo mi pase de expositor / diseñadora bajo PaperArtsy y entramos al paraíso que se encuentra en construcción…
Empezamos a montar el stand, poniendo pósters y demás. Aquí Mark y Leandra colgando el mío.
Lo que según Leandra nos costaría 2h de montar nos llevará el día entero. Como llevarse las estanterías de muestra con todas las pinturas acrílicas pesaría mucho y necesitarían espacio donde ponerlas, Mark tuvo la idea de cortar trozos de cartulina muy densa (parecía casi madera) con forma de botellas de pintura y las pintó con las pinturas de verdad (hay 88 o más) y estas pegadas a la pared mostrarían a la gente la paleta completa de pinturas Fresco. Adherir espuma de doble cara a cada una y colocarlas en su sitio especifico me estaba costando la vida. Parecía que estuviese jugando al juego de mesa Lince. Por suerte Mark vino al rescate y entre los dos acabamos mucho más rápido. Quedaron muy bien!
Una vez lo básico del stand está en su sitio, pasamos a preparar el área de hacer demos. Pintamos cada tapa de cada bote de pintura, que estaban por estrenar, para que así se reconocieran más fácilmente. Resulta una tarea relajante, nos la tomamos con calma y charlamos.
Entonces, en algún momento, Leandra decide probar la pistola de calor (que tiene enchufe y voltaje de UK) y resulta que a penas va. Para secar un papel creo que si soplas acabas antes que con la pistola… Así que Leandra sugiere ir al stand de Ranger a ver si tienen una de sobras. Yo oigo Ranger y los ojos me hacen chiribitas, así que me apunto a la expedición con la esperanza de encontrarme a alguien… Y a quien nos encontramos? a Dyan Reaveley! Creadora de las Dylusions, dueña de la tienda Art From the Heart (donde fui a hacer el taller con Tim Holtz). Voy y decido preguntar (por qué no?) si me puedo hacer una foto con ella y así es como empieza my colección de fotos con famosos!
Les dejo hablando y me voy a ver qué están montando en otros sitios y a ver si consigo encontrar a alguien más y hacerme más fotos. De repente me topo con Prima y por el rabillo del ojo veo a Frank García sentado a una mesa de la zona de make and take de Prima! Mi yo interior me alerta y me dice que me acuerde de pedirle un autógrafo para mi amiga (no diré nombres, Aida) y para hacerme una foto con él. Así que corro para el stand de PaperArtsy (rezando para que Frank no se vaya y se quede donde está un rato más) y saco mis tarjetas en blanco para autógrafos y un rotulador y vuelvo a Prima. Le despierto de su letargo (me daba la sensación de que estaba aburrido mirando el móvil, aunque igual se lo estaba pasando en grande, pero preferí molestarle hoy que mañana, que estaría más ocupado). Escribe unas palabras en la tarjeta para Aida y nos hacemos unas cuantas fotos que toma una compañera suya y le dejo tranquilo.
Satisfecha por haber cumplido mi misión, veo de reojo otro stand muy bonito cerca de Prima y resulta que es el de sizzix de Tim Hotlz y a quien me encuentro? A Mario Rossi!! La vergüenza ya la he perdido hace rato, así que le pido una foto (qué narices!), otra más para la cole! Cruzamos 4 palabras y le dejo para admirar lo que han hecho en el stand.
Dejo escapar a Mario y me quedo admirando las muestras… son una pasada. Y cuando estoy a mitad, quien aparece?? Tim Holtz!! Nos hacemos una foto (está borrosa) aunque ya no quería molestarle mas porque parece que tenía que ir a algún otro sitio. Aunque la foto sale borrosa, al menos tengo una!
Se van del stand y me dejan que haga fotos. Una vez acabo me acuerdo de una cosa: No dijo Gina K en Instagram que estaría en el stand 3001? Sí, me lo memoricé. Por qué? Pues porque ella tuvo una gran influencia en mí. “Por su culpa” profundicé en este mundo un poco más. En aquel entonces estaba en la superficie, sabía estampar en tinta de distintos colores y hacer embossing con polvos metalizados. Punto. Un día la encontré en YouTube y empecé a ver todos sus videos de técnicas que tiene. Creo que me los pulí en un fin de semana, quizás eran más de 40 videos…
Enseñaba Kissing, masking, huffing, resist, Segunda generación de estampación, envejecer, embossing en caliente, embossing en frío con la cuttlebug, die cutting, Josephs coat, bueno, mogollón de cosas… y al acabar me dejó con unas ganas tremendas de comprarme polvos de embossing transparentes (clear) para hacer técnicas de resist y la cuttlebug, para probar los embossings en frío… al final cayeron, o mas bien caí yo, a 4 patas… 🙂 O sea que estaba deseando probar suerte a ver si me topaba con ella… y sí! Me la encontré! Mi yo interior empezó a dar saltos de alegría, no me lo podía creer! Es encantadora, siempre sonriente. Iba de camino a otro sitio, pero estuvo encantada de hacerse una foto conmigo! Le expliqué que por su culpa me compré la cuttlebug y me metí más en este mundo, aprendí mucho y que en parte gracias a ella hoy estaba allí. Pues ese ha sido uno de los momentos más emocionantes de mi vida. Para aquellos que no seáis crafters, imaginaros que os encontráis a un cantante o compositor que os inspiró a aprender a tocar la guitarra y que gracias a ello os podéis haber dedicado a ella ya no solo como hobby, que incluso habéis podido tocar en directo en locales, dar conciertos o incluso sacar un disco. Así es como me sentí.
Después de experimentar todo esto, pensé para mis adentros: me podría ir ya mismo a casa y el viaje ya habría valido la pena. No necesitaba nada más. Así que la cosa sólo podía mejorar…
Volví al stand de PaperArtsy antes de que Leandra volviese del de Ranger. Una vez llegó ella, seguimos con el montaje del stand, colgamos muestras a las pareces, vino Seth Apter, nos hicimos fotos también. Aquí estamos Mark, Seth y yo:
Seth se fue. Seguimos montando y al final nos tuvimos que ir y dejar cuatro cosas para el día siguiente. Fuimos los tres a cenar, volví andando a mi hotel, escribí en my travel journal y a dormir.
Day 3 – Creativation
Hoy es el día! Empieza a las 10 para visitantes normales, pero como tengo el pase de expositor puedo entrar antes. Entro por la puerta trasera y empiezo a recorrer pasillos con mis cámaras (sí, dos a la vez) intentando hacer un directo vía Instagram y a la vez grabando lo mismo con la goPro. Según Instagram, Vicky Papaioannou estará por Creativation hoy (estoy impaciente por conocerla) pero Kristina Werner no ha podido venir (está mal de la espalda, la pobre. Me hubiese encantado conocerla, su estilo no es el mío para nada, pero todo lo que hace es precioso, no se le acaba la inspiración)
Decido que mi objetivo de hoy es grabar demos para que vosotros podáis vivir el evento conmigo. Consigo grabar unos minutos de Jane Davenport. Es encantadora y mística, una chica muy feliz, adorando a sus sirenas y sus nuevos ink pads con formas de escamas. A su lado lo único que puedes sentir es felicidad!
Mi siguiente parada es Gina K. Mi felicidad se catapulta cuando llego a su mesa que está rodeada de gente y me reconoce y dice que se alegra de que me haya pasado! 🙂 Nos regala una técnica nueva a usar con sellos y tinta que no había visto nunca (esa es mi Gina!) y nos enseña como utilizar sus nuevas plantillas de termoweb con foil para conseguir brillos y purpurinas.
Me hubiese hecho ilusión llevarme una de las muestras que hizo, pero no me atrevo a preguntarle (en ese momento no lo sé pero al día siguiente me encontraré una de esas muestras tiradas por el suelo, y evidentemente, se vienen a mi bolsillo para incluirlas en my travel journal (mi tesssoooorooo)):
Después de Gina me acerco a Ranger y de repente veo un montón de gente alrededor de la mesa, rodeada de cámaras, micros, ipads en trípode. Vale, adivinad quién es. Por supuesto, es Tim Holtz! Toma! Y sabéis quien está también mirando la demo de Tim? Vicky Papaioannou! Re-Toma!! Me acerco a la mesa por el lado de Vicky que parece el más accesible, y empiezo un instagram live. Le pregunto a mi audiencia si me escuchan, Vicky se da cuenta de que estoy grabando y me da paso para que me acerque y me regala una sonrisa. Qué maja! Y aún no hemos hablado! Grabo a Tim explicando como usar su nuevo spray de pegamento, Distress Resist. Pinta bien, quizás lo pruebo un día. Una vez Tim acaba de explicar esa primera parte, parece que Vicky se va a ir y aprovecho para presentarme por si no la vuelvo a ver. Nos hacemos una foto

Después de Tim, vuelvo al stand de PaperArtsy y hago algo de demos con Infusions. El día va pasando, hago unas pocas más expediciones a varios stands, varios vídeos más. Parece que vaya a la busca y captura de Tim, este hombre está en todas partes, cambiando de stand cada dos por tres (tiene 7 stands, repito, S-I-E-T-E). Tengo la oportunidad de conocer a Heidi Swapp.
Grabo un directo de Seth.
Me grabo en directo a mí misma, aunque nadie me está viendo, pero me da igual, yo sigo con la mía y en algún momento aparece Jofy como espectadora (ha ido viendo casi todos los directos que he hecho) y aprovechamos para saludarla Leandra, Mark y yo desde el stand.
Son sólo las 2 y ya estoy agotada. Voy a comer a la zona de descanso que está llena de bancos, asientos y enchufes para cargar lo que quieras. Mark y Leandra me han comprado un bagel de pollo que está buenísimo. Me doy cuenta de que no tengo servilleta. Paso de la servilleta, no pasa nada. Veo que Vicky pasa por delante en dirección a PaperArtsy y digo, bueno, voy a por la servilleta, igual de repente Vicky aparece en el stand. Justo! Aparece y esta vez me presento como diseñadora de sellos de PaperArtsy, se acuerda de mí de antes. Le gustan mis sellos, nos hacemos una foto, la dejo hablando con Leandra y yo me vuelvo a comer el bagel, esta vez llevo una servilleta. Después de comer estoy aún más cansada.
El día continúa, me lo estoy pasando pipa, haciendo mini expediciones por todas partes. Grabo una demo de Ice Resin:
Seth me da los polvos nuevos de embossing que ha sacado con Emerald Creek y que se los compré una semanas antes. Son muy diferentes a los polvos de embossing normales. Tengo unas ganas de jugar con ellos! (Este es un vídeo posterior al CHA en el que he experimentado un poco con ellos)
Continuo filmando más demos. Encuentro a mi amiga Paula en el stand de Tonic (sólo nos conocemos de habernos visto en un par de ferias, en Stitches y Ally Pally, pero es muy maja). Hace unas demos con unos nuevos pinceles acuareables de Nuvo, de alta densidad de colorante, parecen tintas de alcohol. Hace unas muestras para fondos o para recortar que son muy bonitas y llamativas.
Vuelvo al stand de PaperArtsy, más demos, charlas, grabaciones. Leandra hace un par de demos, uno sobre pintura acrílica Frescos:

y de repente el día se acaba. Acabamos con una agradable cena con Mark, Leandra, Seth, Kim Evans y otras personas del mundillo, todas muy majas. Tanto la comida como la compañía estuvieron genial. De vuelta al hotel y ya sólo me quedará un día.
Día 4 – Mi último día
OK, hoy es mi último día. Hoy empieza a las 9 (por qué? Pues no se sabe, resulta que ayer era a las 10 y hoy a las 9). Acabo de preparar mi maleta, ducha, último desayuno en el hotel Super 8 y me voy para Creativation con todas mis cosas. Hoy hace un día precioso, ni una sola nube. Grabo mi caminata a Creativation, aunque no sé si voy a acabar usando todas estas grabaciones para algo… pero me lo paso genial y saboreo cada momento. El aeropuerto está cerca, mi primer vuelo es a las 3 (15h) así que en lugar de salir a las 12, creo que me puedo quedar un poco más.
Decido recorrer todos los stands, uno a uno y grabar todas las preciosas muestras usando la cámara de fotos, no la GoPro, así no tiene tanta distorsión de ojo de pez, y en algún momento filmo con las dos, porque quiero poder escoger y que no me pase como cuando fuimos a Seychelles que la configuración la tenía mal puesta y me di cuenta cuando llegué a casa… Así que hoy grabo de nuevo lo que ayer ya grabé. En algún momento creo que me van a echar de los stands, porque algunos los he visitado ya 3 o 4 veces… pero nadie se queja, menos mal 🙂
Si tuviese que elegir un top 3 (o quizás top 5) de stands (por muestras y decoración), me quedaría con Tim Holtz (Ideaology, Stamper’s Anonymous y Sizzix), Graphic 45 y Prima. No puedo juzgar el de PaperArtsy, para los medios que tenían en cuanto a montaje, las muestras son una pasada, y no hablo de las mías, sino de las del resto de diseñadores y colaboradores, han hecho un trabajo genial! Pero la pena es que con la historia de que no podía enseñar ni la mitad, porque aún no han salido a la venta, no hice fotos de todas 😦 Bueno, estarán en Stitches (el show de Birmingham) y allí sí que las podré enseñar. Hablo con algunas personas más, filmo algunos minutos más de Tim y al final consigo decirle que diseño sellos para PaperArtsy (último check hecho) hablamos un rato y le digo adios por este año.
Última visita al stand de PaperArtsy, abrazos y deseos de buen viaje recibidos de mis padres adoptivos en el mundo del scrap y dejo Creativation por este año.
El primer vuelo va bien, aterrizo en Los Ángeles (y consigo ver desde la distancia el cartel de Hollywood desde mi ventana, cómo mola!).
Hago el check in desde el mostrador, no desde las máquinas y la chica consigue asignarme una ventana sin pagar nada más. Bien! A ver si mi cuello y espalda sufren menos esta vez. Me compro comida para el avión y empiezo a escribir este post. Me subo al avión, veo una peli mientras me como parte de lo que he comprado, sigo con el post. Decido hacer una siesta (es la recomendación de Leandra para evitar Jet Lag) y parece que algo he dormido porque al despertar ya sólo quedan 2h de vuelo para llegar a Londres.
Aterrizo en Londres, todo va sobre ruedas y por fin llego a casa. Tiempo para relajarse y procesar toda la información e inspiración que he recibido estos efímeros días.
Ha sido un viaje genial e inolvidable, no me arrepiento de haber ido y ahora creo que lo que ha durado ha sido suficiente, no necesitaba más para lo que quería conseguir.
