Yes, you read right, they went back to school, in NYC! And I wanted them to have the nicest stationary in the class. Tomorrow I´ll share with you the other half. Hola a todos! Seguimos con la retrospectiva. Hoy quiero compartir con vosotros el kit de vuelta al cole que les hice a mis padres en 2011. Sí, estáis leyendo bien, volvieron a la escuela, pero de inglés, y ni más ni menos que en NYC! Quería que fuesen la envidia de la clase, así que les preparé este kit. Hoy os enseño una parte y mañana la otra. Ya me diréis qué os parecen en la sección de comentarios 😉 Espero que os gusten!

In April 2011, my parents decided to take a pre-retirement Erasmus adventure, so they went to New York to visit my aunt and to learn English. That was an awesome decision that I totally supported 100%! So to make this experience more special and unforgettable, I decided to prepare an English school kit customized for each of them. That kit would accompany them to NYC and once back in Barcelona it would remind them in the future that the adventure had actually happened. Luckily they had a good time and they will remember nice things out of it. Otherwise the kit may have ended in the bin, in order to forget the experience… 😀

The kit consisted of 2 spiral notebooks with interior pockets and 2 pencil cases (with pens, pencil, sharpener and eraser), which were handmade by me. Today I’ll show you the notebooks and tomorrow I’ll show you the pencil cases.

As you may have seen in other notebook posts that I’ve already shared with you, I like to start from a plain kraft colour cover notebook which then I decorate with scrap supplies like paper, stamps, ribbon, eyelets, etc.  Both of them are done in the same way, but they have some variations. I didn’t want to make them completely different, just the opposite, since I didn’t want my parents to start a fight for the best one, hehehe. Anyway, I’m really lucky to have non-fighter parents and even if they wanted to, they couldn’t start fighting because I decided the design for them and each notebook had already a name on it.

So this is the list of supplies and the steps to get them done. Please note that I have stamps that are now discontinued, so I don’t believe you can get them anymore, which is a pitty…

#1 – My Dad’s notebook

HOW-TO

For the front cover:

(1) Cut a brown cardstock so it covers a third part of the cover. Stick it on the rigth. Place 2 eyelets in both corners.

(2) Stamp with versamark ink the house from My garden collection stamp set by aladine. Use the gold embossing powders on top and heat emboss it.

(3) Punch 7 leaves in green cardstock, punch 10 dragon-flies in cream cardstock, punch 1 frog in green cardstock. Stick all of them as per the picture.

(4) For the label, get a piece of cream cardstock and stamp English Notebook or the title you want using different fonts and different colours. Here I even used my handwriting in black with a pen. Once stamped, cut it in a rectangle shape but with craft scissors, so you get a nice edge. The ones I used have a Victorian pattern. Then cut a bigger rectangle in green with regular scissors. Stick these 2 pieces together.

(5) Stick the ribbon all the way from beginning to end. The endings are hidden under the English notebook label, so the ribbon goes all the way down through the cover, comes up on the back of the cover and once it reaches the top, it comes down again to meet the beginning of the ribbon.

(6) Stick the label on the top left corner

For the back cover:

Stamp in white the hemispheres stamp. Cut the top and the bottom labels, stick them and stamp different sentiments and things

For the inside pocket:

Use the Martha Stewart punch doily and punch a white cardstock. cut it to the width of the notebook, fold the edges to the inside and stick those and the bottom to the notebook, centred. 

Get a brown cardstock and cut a 9cm stripe of the same width as the pocket. Use the floral punch to decorate one side and cut the other side with craft scissors with a nice edge. Stick it at the bottom of the pocket. 

Stamp the initial of the recipient of the notebook and handwrite the remaining letters of the name. Add some more stamps to decorate, if you want.

#2 – My Mum’s notebook

HOW-TO

For the front cover:

(1) Cut a brown cardstock so it covers less than half of the cover. Punch one edge with the doily Martha Stewart punch. Stick it on the right. Stamp in brown the background leaves from the Trees stamp set collection by Aladine. Place 2 eyelets in both corners.

(2) Stamp with versamark ink the house from My garden collection stampset by aladine. Use the gold embossing powders on top and heat emboss it.

(3) Punch 8 leaves in brown cardstock. Stick all of them as per the picture.

(4) For the label, get a piece of cream cardstock and stamp English Notebook or the title you want using different fonts and different colours. Here I even used a rubbon in black. Once stamped, cut it in a rectangle shape but with craft scissors, so you get a nice edge. The ones I used have a Victorian pattern. Then cut a bigger rectangle in brown with regular scissors. Stick the label as per the picture.

For the back cover:

Stamp in white the hemispheres stamp. Cut the top and the bottom labels, stick them and stamp different sentiments and things

For the inside pocket:

Get a piece of white cardstock. cut it to the width of the notebook, fold the edges to the inside and stick those and the bottom to the notebook, centred. 

Get a brown cardstock and cut a 2cm stripe of the same width as the pocket uding craft scissors with a nice edge. Stick it at the bottom of the pocket. 

Stamp the name of the recipient of the notebook and add some more stamps to decorate and a punched frog, if you want.

RETROSPECTIVE – APRIL 2011 – NYC TRIP NOTEBOOKS

En abril de 2011, ya que mis padres estaban prejubilados, decidieron embarcarse en una aventura rollo Erasmus, así que decidieron irse a New York a visitar a mi tía y a aprender inglés. Me pareció una iniciativa genial en la que estaba de acuerdo al 100%! Así que para que esta experiencia fuese más especial e inolvidable, quise prepararles un kit para el cole customizado para cada uno. El kit les acompañaría a NYC y, una vez de vuelta en Barcelona, les recordaría en un futuro que la aventura había pasado de verdad. Menos mal que se lo pasaron bien allí y que no fue ningún trauma, sino no sé dónde hubiese acabado el kit… en la basura para olvidar? 😀

El kit consistía de dos libretas de espiral con bolsillos interiores y dos estuches (con bolis, lápiz, goma y sacapuntas), todo hecho a mano.

Hoy os enseño las libretas y mañana os enseñaré los estuches. A ver qué os gusta más!

Como habréis visto en otros posts anteriores, me gusta empezar con una libreta que tenga la portada vacía, en color marrón (como de papel reciclado) y a partir de ahí la decoro con materiales de scrap: papeles, sellos, cintas, eyelets, etc. Las dos están hechas de la misma forma pero con algunas variaciones. No las quería hacer completamente diferentes, todo lo contrario, no vaya a ser que mis padres se peleen por cual es la mejor, jejeje. Por suerte, mis papis no son de pelearse y aunque quisieran pelearse por las libretas no podrían porque decidí el diseño por ellos y en cada libreta puse el nombre de su propietario.

#1 – My Dad’s notebook – la de mi papi

HOW-TO

Para la cubierta:

(1) Cortar una cartulina marrón que cubra una tercera parte de la tapa. Pegarla a la derecha. Coloca 2 ojales en ambas esquinas.

(2) Estampa con tinta VERSAMARK la casa de la colección My garden, de Aladine. Utiliza los polvos de embossing color oro encima y aplícales calor con el secador (embossing tool)

(3) Perforar 7 hojas de cartulina verde, perforar 10 libélulas en cartulina color crema, perforar 1 rana en cartulina verde. Pégalos todos según la imagen.

(4) Para la etiqueta, conseguir un trozo de cartulina crema y estampar English Notebook o el título que quieras utilizando diferentes tipos de letra y colores. Aquí incluso escribí a mano alguna letra en negro con una pluma. Una vez estampado, córtalo en forma de rectángulo, pero con unas tijeras de bordes decorativos. Las que he usado tienen un patrón de estilo victoriano. A continuación, cortar un rectángulo grande de color verde con unas tijeras normales. Pegarlos entre sí.

(5) Pegar la cinta de forma que le de la vuelta a la tapa poniendo adhesivo en toda la cinta. Las puntas se van a encontrar donde está la etiqueta de English notebook, así cuando peguemos la etiqueta quedarán ocultas.

(6) Pegar la etiqueta en la esquina superior izquierda.

Para la contraportada:

Estampa en blanco el sello del mapa mundi. Corta las etiquetas superiores e inferiores, pégalas y estampa diferentes frases y otras cosas

Para el bolsillo interior:

Usa la perforadora de Martha Stewart del encaje sobre cartulina blanca. Córtala a la anchura de la libreta, dobla los bordes hacia el interior y pégalos, junto con la parte de abajo, a la libreta, centrado.

Coge una cartulina marrón y corta una banda de 9 cm de la misma anchura que el bolsillo. Utiliza el punzón de flores para decorar un lado y corta el otro lado con unas tijeras decorativas. Pégalo en la parte de abajo del bolsillo.

Estampa la inicial del destinatario del cuaderno y escribe a mano las letras restantes del nombre. Estampa algunas cosas más para decorar, si lo deseas.

#2 – My Mum’s notebook – el de mi mami

HOW-TO

Para la portada:

(1) Cortar una cartulina marrón que cubra un poco menos de la mitad de la tapa. Perforar un borde con la perforadora de encaje de Martha Stewart. Pégalo en la derecha. Estampa en marrón el sello de hojas del set de árboles de la colección de Aladine. Coloca 2 ojales en ambas esquinas.

(2) Estampa con tinta VERSAMARK la casa de la colección My garden, de Aladine. Utiliza los polvos de embossing color oro encima y aplícales calor con el secador (embossing tool)

(3) Perforar 8 hojas en cartulina marrón. Pégalas según la imagen.

(4) Para la etiqueta, conseguir un trozo de cartulina crema y estampar English Notebook o el título que quieras utilizando diferentes tipos de letra y colores. Aquí incluso escribí a mano alguna letra en negro con una pluma. Una vez estampado, córtalo en forma de rectángulo, pero con unas tijeras de bordes decorativos. Estampa el nombre del destinatario del cuaderno. Estampa algunas cosas más para decorar e incluye una rana perforada, si lo deseas.
