Hi everyone! This is another post on the retrospective series. In case you are wondering, this series will only last for a week or a week and a half. After that, I will reduce the number of posts to once per week or once every 2 weeks.

So today’s post is about the rolling pencil case that I did for my grandma in April 2015. She loved it and she would proudly show it to you if you happened to come across her :). If you like it, feel free to share it or let me know in the section comments below 😉 Enjoy!

Hola a todos! Seguimos con la retrospectiva. En caso de que os lo estéis preguntando, esta serie tendrá una duración de una semana o una semana y media. Después de eso, voy a reducir el número de posts a una vez por semana o una vez cada 2 semanas.

Así que el post de hoy va del estuche enrollable de lápices de colores que hice para mi yaya en abril de 2015. A ella le encantó y ella os lo enseñaría orgullosa si alguna vez os la encontráis :). So my grandma recently found a new hobby. After spending hours in front of the TV while my grandpa went to play cards with his friends in the social club from the neighbourhood she decided she was bored. My mum went to see her and kindly offered her help to try and find a new interesting thing to do in the evenings, or at least once per week.

They both went to the social club, where apart from playing cards they do other activities such as zumba, conga, samba, bungee jumping… No! I’m just kidding! 😀 But they actually do other safer activities, like drawing, playing board games and painting mandalas. So after hesitating a little bit, she went for the mandalas. She was too nervous during the first class, she was not sure if she should come back or not, but she was brave and the next week she did it better and had more fun. So now she is a regular on the class.

As I thought this was a very good thing for her, I wanted to encourage her to keep on painting, so I decided to get her a painting book and a set of pencils. But I wanted this to be special, so I made my first rolling pencil case with all my love for her, for being one of the 2 best grandmas I’ve ever had!

This is the result:

I don’t have a step by step guide but if you want to know more, leave me a comment or contact me and I may prepare a future post about this. In the meantime, I’ll include the pictures and some guidelines so you can see how I’ve created it.

The three laces are actually elastics, so they keep the pencils in place from falling. The bottom part is a long strip and I’ve sewn pockets every 4 pencils (every 5cm more or less). The length of the blue dotted fabric is around 50cm wide by 22cm tall. You can adapt the size according to the number of pencils and their high.

The back:

If you notice, the dark red ribbon is only partially sewn 5 times, so the remaining is free for you to be able to close it.

The fabric on the left has a seem on top of it. That is where I closed the case.

RETROSPECTIVE – APRIL 2015 – ROLLING PENCIL CASE

Pues mi yaya ha descubierto recientemente un nuevo hobby. Después de pasar horas delante de la tele mientras mi yayo se iba a jugar a las cartas con sus amigos al casal del barrio, decidió que se aburría. Mi madre fue a verla y se ofreció amablemente a ayudarla a encontrar algo nuevo e interesante que hacer por las tardes, o por lo menos una vez por semana.

Fueron juntas al casal, donde además de jugar a las cartas vieron que hacen otras actividades como zumba, conga, samba, puenting … ¡No! ¡Que es broma! 😀 En realidad hacen otras actividades menos arriesgadas, como dibujar, jugar a juegos de mesa (rummy) y pintar mandalas, entre otras cosas. Así que después de darle unas vueltas, se decidió por los mandalas. Durante la primera clase la pobre se puso muy nerviosa, no estaba segura de si queríavolver o no, pero se armó de valor y la próxima semana lo hizo mejor y se lo pasó bien. Así que ahora es una más de la clase.

Como me pareció que haber encontrado un hobby era algo muy bueno para ella, quería animarla a que siguiera con ello, así que decidí comprarle un libro para pintar para adultos y un set de lápices de colores. Pero quería que fuese algo especial, así que decidí hacer mi primer estuche enrollable lápices de color, con todo mi cariño, para ella, por ser una de las 2 mejores yayas que podía tener! 🙂

No tengo una guía paso a paso, pero si quieres saber más sobre cómo hacer uno de estos, déjame un comentario o ponte en contacto conmigo y puedo preparar un próximo post sobre esto. Por el momento, voy a incluir fotos y algunas indicaciones de cómo lo hice.

Las tres tiras son en realidad elásticas, con lo que ayudan a mantener los lápices en su lugar. La parte inferior es una tira larga y he cosido bolsillos cada 4 lápices (cada 5 cm más o menos). La longitud de la tela de puntos azul es de alrededor de 50 cm de ancho por 22 cm de altura. Dependiendo del número de lápices y de su altura, puedes variar las dimensiones del estuche.

La parte de atrás:

Si te fijas, la cinta roja está parcialmente cosida, solo cinco veces, así que el resto queda suelto para que puedas cerrar el estuche.

La tela gris de la izquierda tiene una costura encima. Es por ahí por donde cerré el estuche (costura final).
